• The Six Stages of Crafting with Small Children

My girls love a good craft project (Obviously, they get this from their mama). But, like most activities where kids are involved, how you think it will go and how it actually goes are vastly different states. Let’s review the six stages of crafting with (in this case, two) small children: Anticipation  Scour Pinterest and save approximately 217 crafts. You are going to have the perfect collection of pipe cleaner, toilet paper roll and popsicle stick crafts for all seasons. You’ll spend whole afternoons stretched out on the living room floor, marveling as your little one craft the perfect paper plate creations with her tiny hands. You’ll carefully put her name and…

  • Dear B: Fifth Birthday Edition

Dear B, This was just yesterday, wasn’t it? So, how are you already blowing out the candles on your fifth birthday cake? You often ask me to tell you the story of “the time that you found the cutest baby.” And, of course, I oversimplify greatly when I tell you how I went to the hospital on August 30, 2013, looked through the window to the nursery, spotted you and said “that’s the baby that I want to take home!” And, you laugh when I tell you that when we got home, you cried all night, pooped in your diaper, ate all my food and climbed all over me like…

  • Bye, Bye, Crib

We gave away the crib. Of all the parenting milestones that I’ve encountered so far, I don’t think that any have hit me as hard as this one has. The last time that we moved someone to big girl bed, it was just weeks before a new little one joined our family. But, in the blink of an eye, that new little one isn’t so little anymore. She said “Bye, bye crib” and we moved her big sister’s bed into her room. And, big sister, who is just a couple of weeks away from turning five, got an even bigger, big girl bed, that once belonged to mama. The rational…

  • On the Road: Canadian Adventure 2018

I laughed out loud in the dark earlier this month when I came across this this article while scrolling through my Facebook feed, instead of going to sleep at a reasonable hour. And, then a couple of weeks later, as we made our way through a weeklong Canadian road trip, I laughed quietly to myself again and again, as I did many of the things mentioned in the post. Rifling through my backpack to make sure that I had some “in case of emergency” plastic bags tucked in one of the compartments? Yep. Scanning the aisles of a grocery stores in Ottawa for microwaveable mac and cheese to make in our…

  • Summer Bucket List

Anyone who knows me, knows I am generally not a fan of the weather this season brings. But, what I am a fan of is the slower pace of life during this middle part of the year. It feels like we need that more than ever, after the last few, very hectic months. The most surprising thing about this stage of life is how tiring it is. I assumed that once both kids were out of the very tiny human stage, that things wouldn’t be quite as exhausting. Now, I’m just a different kind of tired. It’s the kind of mental exhaustion that comes with juggling schedules, getting out the door…

  • There Are Days…

There are days where I get angry too easily at them for being noisy, cranky and needy (basically, for just being kids). Days where I am running late, so I decide to tempt fate and not wrestle a tiny human onto the potty before leaving the house, only to have her pee in the car seat…again. Days where I make plans in my head to give them an adventure, only to end up spending the afternoon binge-watching My Little Pony. Days where I make more trips to the bathroom than I actually need because sometimes that’s where I can have two interrupted minutes without anyone touching me. There are days…

  • Hello. It’s Me.

#Motto Willkommen! And bienvenue! Welcome! Fremder, étranger, stranger. Chances are, you probably know a bit about me already from my previous home on the Internet (and if you weren’t already aware, my use of a show tune lyric to open this post should indicate that I’m a nerd).  If, however, you somehow stumbled upon this space by accident, feel free to skim this handy page for a quick intro. I’m not exactly sure what I should be writing about in this first post. In fact, I don’t actually have a plan for what this new blog is going to be all about. But, I do know that having a space to…
